Hello,
My name is Lori DiGisi and I am the Chairperson of the MRA Adhoc Committee on Secondary Literacy. This blog is a place for secondary literacy specialists to share current research, strategies, and issues related to improving adolescent reading. I invite you to comment or share and please attend the Massachusetts Reading Association Conference in Sturbridge on March 23rd and 24th to learn more about our committee and to interact with other secondary literacy specialists!

I have just come back from Washington, D.C. where adolescent literacy is a hot topic. All those interested in secondary literacy need to be active and talk to their Representatives however, because Washington is conceptualizing adolescent literacy as high school reform. Those of us who work with adolescents know that it starts much younger and that students need support in middle school as well as high school so that they do not form identities as "nonreaders" before they enter high school.
I am hoping that secondary literacy specialists can comment on my postings and ask questions. Please e-mail me at ldigisi@framingham.k12.ma.us if you would like to ask a question or post a comment to this blog.
Thanks!
Lori
